Rethinking Progress
This is a seminar class on progress that I teach for the Adelphi University Honors College. The title, Rethinking Progress, suggests multiple ways of envisioning progress, and it is the main theme of the course. We explore the different dimensions along disciplinary lines, considering topics like scientific progress, social progress, cultural progress, racial progress, economic progress, and others. Through these different lenses we evaluate the extent to which we have experienced progress as a species, and the contemporary human condition amidst a number of pressing crises and challenges.
